Admissions

The admissions policy of this school is common to all County Schools in West Sussex. The policy is outlined in the booklet 'Information for Parents' which is published by the Authority. If you have not received a copy of this publication you may obtain one by contacting the Crawley Education Office.

Admissions to Billingshurst Infant School from within the designated area are made by the Authority on behalf of the Headteacher and Governors. The Published Admission Number (PAN) for the school is currently 90. For a child living outside the area, application must be made to the Northern Area Admissions office.

Potential parents are very welcome to visit the school and should telephone for an appointment.

New admissions

Children must, by law, be in full-time education by the start of the term that follows their fifth birthday. In West Sussex children are able to start school at the beginning of the school year (September) in which they reach their fifth birthday. For some children this will be on a part time basis.

Transition from Playgroup

In the summer term before the children start school they are invited to spend several sessions in the Reception unit with their new class teachers, helpers and classmates. Prior to entry, the class teachers will also visit the feeder playgroups to meet these children in situ.  In addition, the staff of the school meet termly with all Playgroup Leaders to discuss appropriate learning activities, agreed expectations and transition arrangements.

As starting school is a big step, the full time children are introduced over a period of two weeks into full time education. The first week they will stay until lunchtime, going home at 12 o’clock. During the second week they stay for lunch and go home at 1:00pm. By the third week they are usually settled and stay for the full day.

Transfers from other schools

Parents seeking admission to the school at ages between five and seven years should apply directly to the School. The Parents Information Pack includes all the information a parent needs.
