The information below gives a brief outline of the curriculum.

 

Reception Year

 

The Foundation Stage underpins all future learning by supporting, fostering, promoting and developing children’s:

   - personal, social and emotional well being

   - positive attitudes and dispositions towards their learning

   - social skills

   - attention skills and persistence

   - language and communication

   - reading and writing

   - mathematics

   - knowledge and understanding of the world

   - physical development

   - creative development

 

Key Stage 1

 

We provide an all encompassing, exciting, broad and balanced curriculum to enable the children to develop academically, physically and socially. They are guided and encouraged to think for themselves and become responsible and independent learners. The education they receive will challenge, give enjoyment and success and will prepare them for their place in society.

 

We recognise that everyone is an individual and as such we help each child to reach their full potential. We set out to meet the needs of the children by assessing their present achievements and providing them as appropriate with class, group and individual work to take them forward to the next stages of learning.

In Years 1 and 2 most of the subjects are taught through half termly projects, each class choosing a related theme through which the National Curriculum programmes of study are covered. Working through projects provides a means of linking together work in several subject areas. Where possible the curriculum is taught through first hand experience. Subject areas which cannot be integrated in the projects are taught independently.
